Raw or Seed Cotton
Cotton is a bulk staple fiber produced from the cotton plant. Once harvested, seed cotton is removed from the harvester and placed in modules, relatively compact units of seed cotton. Shaped like a giant loaf of bread, a seed cotton module can weigh up to 11.3kg.
Ginned Cotton
Seed cotton is processed in gins to separate the lint from the cottonseed, which represents around 40% of seed cotton’s weight. After the lint is baled at the gin, samples taken from each bale are classed according to fiber strength, length, length uniformity, color, non-fiber content and fineness.
